Venereal Baptism - Deviant Castigation Liturgy (EN)

How do I define Black Metal nowadays? There are so many streams within this genre that this seems impossible. Often it is enough to talk about recognizing the "trve" (yes, with it v is really true), etc., etc.

Venereal Baptism, founded in 2014, has already made it clear what Black Metal means to them with the EP "Progenitor Of All Aberrations" (2015). And they underline this again with their current, musically attack "Deviant Castigation Liturgy".

Which means: right into the face. The album is bursting with blasphemous, fast-paced attacks on all the world's best-loved ones. Now and then the songs are given a somewhat doomed note. As a result, the thrashing as well as the, to the hysterical overlap, nagging are even more important. Especially the track "Command" bangs awesomely. For the most part, however, there are only two speeds. Fast and very fast !!! And this rushes throughout the short playtime without getting boring.

From my point of view, this is mainly due to the singer, who does neither squeal around senseless nor dives into the ultra-thin landscape, where it's irrelevant what's booming there. No, this singer is keening and drooling quite intelligently through the tracks without this lax sound.

The instrumental fraction offers a lot in the direction of Death Metal, which leads to enormous energy in the songs. Here, it is mainly the dissonant solos, which are strongly reminiscent of old Morbid Angels. Who listens to the beginning of "... Victorious!" knows what I mean. Terrorizers will surely find their way into the brutal upheaval as well.

Thus one finds himself with Osmose in the best society of Liber Null, Dodsfall and the likes. The production is bold and now and then there is even a small melody, as the flaming guitars in "A Grand Liberation" prove. This is good songwriting.

Conclusion:
Balancing between Death and Black, this is really something hitting on the ears. The drums bang within the snare area during the blasts which is very mechanically, but can convince technically. The duration could have been longer. A fine and brutal morsel for in between.
