It's the end of April and it's snowing outside. So you use your
free day to write a review and you hope that the debut album of the
Danes Tainted Lady makes your day. The disc is named "How The Mighty
Have Fallen" and you can buy it in the shops from the end of May.
An a capella voice introduces the first song "The Witness".
Aside from the beautiful voice, you only hear a quiet buzzing or
humming in the background, which fits perfectly to the wintry mood,
however. This scenario doesn't last long, though, because after a
short while the drumming intro turns into the next track "Set Us
Free". Dirty guitar riffs as well as the bass join in to the rest of
the band. Mister Michael Catton is on the microphone and immediately
shows that he can not only sing beautifully but that he also has the
necessary balls.
Next comes a track called "Ampburner", a
nice mid-tempo pounder, which doesn't leave anything to be desired
regarding the instruments, but he also doesn't want to ignite
properly. Why? It really is nice to listen to but nothing remains in
the head. Indeed, Mister Catton shouts his soul out of his body and
the instruments groove skillfully, but somehow it doesn't leave me
flabbergasted. The track called "The Best Day" is the sixth song and
stands out from the rest. Sentimental vocals lend themselves to the
instruments beautifully and the song invites you to dream along.
The songs of this album are rather similar to each other and the
strong vocals achieve a high enough rating for the guys. Here it's
proven again, that you need a good singer for a good track, who
needs to convey emotions and who has control over his vocal chords.
The duration of about 40 minutes and a total of ten songs is usual
for a longplayer, so everything is done right there.
Conclusion:
"How The Mighty Have Fallen" is quite neat for a
debut album. If you like bands such as Airborne or Volbeat, you
should listen to this and you won't make a fault by buying this
disc. The guys know their craft and the one or other song is also
fitting for a party.
