Dreaming Dead have been around since 2006 and have released two
discs for mankind so far. "Within One" was released in 2009 and
"Midnightmares" in 2012. After a long time, the new album "Funeral
Twilight" will be released.
Some will ask themselves why,
after such a long time, only such a short playing duration is the
result. This question I cannot answer but the question if it is bad
that the disk is so short.
In my opinion this is not really
bad.
Dreaming Dead are sure to offer all the ingredients for
a successful Death Thrash cocktail, such as a fury as a singer /
growler, bouncy drums, down-tuned guitars and a mangling bass. But
they do not have one thing, which is good songs. The songwriting
seems to be torn and frantic especially in blast phases. Sometimes
not everything fits really together, as you can hear in the middle
part of "Buried". Above all, the changes in the song are not easy
for me to hear and understand. The thrashy parts, as in "Funeral
Twilight", come across better. But here, too, the transitions are
rather abrupt and you lose the thread quickly. Within the short play
time there is still a slightly doom instrumental, which bores for
about 2 minutes and does not make the album more valuable.
Real pressure does not arise, unfortunately, since the guitar is
quite quiet and partly drown out by the bass. The nagging is really
in the foreground. Comparisons with bands like Death or Sadus from
the leaflet should better be forgotten.
Conclusion:
A
rather superfluous piece of death metal. There is a lack of flair
for the right use of blasts, and there are no hooks at all. I'm
really bored with this album, and this is truly a death sentence for
this kind of music!
