Maloic is a melodic death metal band from India, which, according
to their facebook page (for the first time I was let down by Metal
Archives), was built in 2012 and which makes its debut on
25.01.2017. This album, as far as I can tell you beforehand, makes
you sit up.
The listener is served melodic death metal with a
distinct progressive touch, as it's already made clear with the
diverse opening "Foul Blood", which starts with acoustic guitars and
which develops into a playful midtempo track with varied drums and
several stroke-changes. Even if I listened to this track more
appreciative than really enthusiastic, it still makes one want to
listen to more and it gives one the feeling that one doesn't have a
boring album here.
"Two Twelve Eighty Four" is more likely to
demonstrate the ability to captivate the listener for real, as it
has quite catchy melodies despite being quite progressive. As the
first highlight of the album, however, I would describe "Unborn",
whose melodies can be sustained in the auditory canal in some places
and which can also accentuate with groovy Riffs.
The next
highlight of the album is directly linked to the in mid-tempo held
title song, in which the otherwise very discreet keyboard in the
background can put some accents at the beginning of the first verse.
Even the about eight-minute length outro "The Rope" shows once more
all the strengths of the band and can offer both progressive and
some more catchy parts.
The proper production, which the
album got donated, puts all the instruments appropriately in scene
and does its best for the positive overall impression.
Conclusion:
Maloic created a good progressive melodic death metal
album with "Death", which, as mentioned above, it contains some
tracks that leave me more appreciative than enthusiastic, but it
shows a band with a lot of potential nevertheless. Friends of
progressive Melodic Death Metal should have a good time with this.
