Founded in 1993, Sear Bliss from Hungary release their eighth
full-length album now. "Letters From The Edge" will be published on
August 24 via Hammerheart Records and it will be available on CD as
well as on vinyl.
The album starts with an atmospheric intro,
which turns into the first song "Forbidden Doors" after a minute.
Powerful riffs, hymnic solos and nagging vocals by András Nagy, who
is also responsible for bass and keyboard, are supplemented with
rhythm and tempo changes, which provide the necessary variety.
My personal favorite "Seven Springs" shows wonderful sound
elements. At times it seems dreamy and playful, until it gets down
to black metal again, where the shooting gallery rumbles and the ax
fraction hits the strings.
Catchy tune passages mingle with
classic Black Metal components, which are decisively influenced by
the striking sound of the trombone and give the black frenzy the
necessary dynamism and energy. The interaction of the instruments
harmonizes here particularly impressively.
"Haven" surprised
me, as the first riffs strongly reminded me of the German band
Thormesis. However, that changed in the course of the song.
After
about fifty minutes, the last notes of "Shroud" fade away and mark
the end of this musical journey.
Conclusion:
Sear Bliss
shine on this disc with atmospheric melodies and typical sound
elements. A very worthwhile prank, but it misses one or another
highlight.
